gingerbread 1:

These peaks represent a small sample of the endless array of detailing used in the Victorian era. They are usually attached to the roof using screw nails. This accommodates easy removal and allows you to bring the fixture down to ground level for repainting. Due to (unavoidable by design) short grain, proper maintenance is critical with this type of millwork.

These types of trim usually cover one third of the roofline. One has to be very careful about the dormer window and its placement in order to use this type of gingerbread. The traditional barge-board below runs the full length of the roofline and presents a lighter approach and less interference with any windows.
